"God bless the Koch brothers. They're fighting for our freedom." — U.S. Sen. David Vitter at a Caddo Parish town hall, defending David and Charles Koch, the billionaire donors who have emerged as a formidable fundraising force for GOP causes and candidates. Vitter called them "two of the most patriotic Americans in the history of the Earth."
Americans for Prosperity (AFP), the group founded and supported by the Kochs, has spent heavily in Louisiana in hopes of unseating Vitter's Democratic counterpart, U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu. In recent weeks, Landrieu has sent out fundraising emails calling AFP's ads unfair and calling the Koch brothers "out of state and out of touch."
