Her Spa by the Park With more than 20 years of experience in cuts and color, master stylist DeLane Gaston heads up the full-service hair salon at My Spa by the Park. August 30 will be a very special birthday for Katie Callia. It will be the day her spa, My Spa by the Park (6312 Argonne Blvd., 482-2219; www.myspabythepark.com), turns one year old.
Callia says she opened the business as a direct result of Katrina. The New Orleans native had been living in California when the hurricane struck in 2005 and returned home to lend assistance to friends and family. She envisioned My Spa by the Park as a way that she could contribute to the community.
While driving around Lakeview, Callia decided the area needed a new salon, "a sanctuary where people could go and relax."
My Spa by the Park is not limited in its offerings. There is a full-service hair salon headed by master stylist DeLane Gaston, who has more than 20 years of experience in cuts and color. In addition, customers come in for manicures, pedicures, facials, massages and body treatments. In-demand services include a signature massage that combines Swedish and deep-tissue massage techniques, the foot-softening Callus Peel Pedicure and the Sea Salt Glow exfoliating body treatment with a moisturizing lotion rub.
The spa's customized facials and other specialized skin services feature products and treatments from French anti-aging, skin-care line GM Collin, available in the metro area exclusively at My Spa by the Park. The soothing Algo Mask Facial has a cooling effect that calms the skin and reduces redness, and the Botinol wrinkle-correcting treatment uses a combination of five different peptides designed to mimic the effects of Botox injections. (GM Collin products are also available for purchase in the spa's retail store.)
But more than just the sum of its parts, the salon's "calm and relaxing" atmosphere is what sets it apart, says Callia.
"It's like you're walking into a friend's home, and I think the charm of that is what makes us so different," she says, adding that her staff members are dedicated not only to serving their customers but also to getting to know them as friends.
"[These are] real people," explains Callia. "If we don't know them, we get to know them. We develop a bond and a friendship with them. It's truly about the guests and the experiences."
The spa is open Monday through Saturday. Starting in September, look for special birthday promotions to celebrate the spa's first year in business.
