"Local and Special" Bills

In addition to major fights over statewide matters, a number of "local and special" bills have been filed by New Orleans lawmakers for the upcoming legislative session that begins next week:

  • House Bill 270 by Rep. Walt Leger, D, changes the membership, qualifications, terms, responsibilities, meetings and procedures of the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans.

  • House Bill 443 by Rep. Gregory Ernst, R — the "temp" rep who is serving in place of state Rep. Nick Lorusso, who is on active military duty — appropriates funds for maintenance and improvements to Bayou St. John.

  • Senate Bill 71 by Sen. Ed Murray, D, describes how owners of transmission wires may have to adjust their wires to accommodate the Orleans Parish public water, drainage and sewerage systems.

  • Senate Bill 72 by Murray prohibits firearms and other explosive devices on property belonging to the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board.

  • Senate Bill 73 by Murray changes the bidding forms used by the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans.

  • Senate Bill 102 by Sen. Ann Duplessis, D, expands the duties of the East New Orleans Neighborhood Advisory Commission.

  • Senate Bill 103 by Duplessis creates the Oak Island Neighborhood Improvement District.

  • Senate Bill 104 by Duplessis creates the Lakewood East Security and Neighborhood Improvement District. — Alford
