The James Beard Foundation announced its 2014 semifinalists Feb. 19, with 14 nods to New Orleans restaurants, chefs and bar professionals. The Beard Awards are some of the highest honors given to American culinary professionals. The finalists will be announced March 19 in Chicago, and the 2014 James Beard Awards will be held in New York City May 2 and 5.
Peche is among the semifinalists for Best New Restaurant, and its chef Ryan Prewitt is among the semifinalists for Best Chef, South. Other semifinalists in that category include Justin Devillier (La Petite Grocery), Alon Shaya (Domenica), Michael Stoltzfus (Coquette), Isaac Toups (Toups' Meatery) and Sue Zemanick (Gautreau's). Arnaud's French 75 and Cure are nominated for Outstanding Bar Program; Donald Link (Herbsaint) is nominated for Outstanding Chef; JoAnn Clevenger (Upperline) is nominated for Outstanding Restaurateur; Brigtsen's is nominated for Outstanding Service; The Grill Room at the Windsor Court Hotel is nominated for Outstanding Wine Program; and Ann Tuennerman (Tales of the Cocktail) is nominated for Outstanding Wine, Spirits or Beer Professional.
