Epidemic is defined as the occurrence of health related events clearly in excess of normal expectancy. Diabetes definitely fits this definition.
According to the American Diabetes Association, someone is diagnosed with diabetes every 20 seconds! Approximately 23.6 million children and adults have diabetes. And 5.7 million have not been diagnosed. Type 2 diabetes, formerly referred to as adult-onset diabetes, is now occurring in children as young as 10 years old. Sedentary lifestyle and an increased consumption of junk food and high calorie drinks have contributed to the epidemic.
Diabetes can be a serious disease if not controlled. You can live and long and productive life with diabetes if you have the proper knowledge.
