State lawmakers passed a bill last year allowing for lifetime concealed handgun permits in Louisiana. Last week, House Speaker Chuck Kleckley, R-Lake Charles, gave his colleagues the chance to get armed. Kleckley aide Stephanie Durand emailed members of the state House and Senate with the offer: "Speaker Kleckley would like to offer the opportunity for you to get a concealed handgun permit. State Police will teach the course on a Wednesday or Thursday early in the session."
For those planning to accept Kleckley's offer: Don't count on a Take Your Gun to Work Day. Among the workplaces in the state where concealed handguns are prohibited: the state Capitol.
