Stirling Properties typically has stayed out of New Orleans, but over the last few years, it's been "bullish" on joining the market, says vice president of development Townsend Underhill. Stirling is tackling three New Orleans projects at once, with several big-box retailers and chains soon breaking ground in New Orleans:
• A Winn-Dixie shopping center on Carrollton Avenue in Mid-City will occupy a former car dealership with five buildings. Groundbreaking is scheduled for January 2012, and confirmed tenants include Winn-Dixie and Pinkberry, with Felipe's, Five Guys, Office Depot and Petco mentioned as possible tenants.
• Walgreens will move into the American Legion Hall on Magazine Street. Renovations begin Dec. 1.
• Fresh Market will replace the Borders bookstore on St. Charles Avenue that closed earlier this year when the company shuttered. The grocery store is scheduled to open in March 2012.
