The best dishes often have a good story behind them, but a pair of special dinners coming up at GW Fins (808 Bienville St., 504-581-3467; www.gwfins.com) takes that to another level with five courses of fish tales.
On Aug. 21 and Aug. 28, the upscale seafood restaurant will host its "Are You Game" wine dinners with a menu of fish procured by a local club of underwater spear fishermen called the Hell Divers. Michael Nelson, the restaurant's chef de cuisine, will turn its catch into the raw, Italian preparation known as crudo and various cooked dishes. The accompanying wines are from Australia's Fowles Winery, which has a collection of wines blended to pair with game and seafood.
The five-course dinners cost $65 per person, plus tax and tip, and will be served in the restaurant's private dining room. Reservations are required.
