Good Guys with Metronome the City

comment
Local duo Good Guys -- often augmented live by a revolving cast of accomplices -- play a heavily atmospheric set of dense, muscular lounge-pop with weighty, crunchy moments that hint at the band's rabid metal fandom. Pleasantly, the band errs more toward pop (or just plain Ween-like oddness) rather than the drone that afflicts many post-metal indie acts. Their ear-catching, sometimes Latin-influenced beats call to mind Siouxsie Sioux and her faithful beat master Budgie. The pair are known for pretty playful, experimental shows, and this one features the premiere of four new music videos from Good Guys and their opponent (the show is technically being billed as "Good Guys vs. Metronome the City"), an experimental prog-rock quartet whose manic instrumental rock can both twitter and wander at disturbing speeds and lull a listener with dreamy, glowing space noises. Expect an arty, multimedia happening. Tickets $7. -- Alison Fensterstock 10 p.m. Sat., May 19
