For some revelers, Carnival is about standing on a parade route as bands and floats pass by. For others, it's about grabbing a seat — for lunch at Galatoire's (209 Bourbon St., 504-525-2021; www.galatoires.com) the Friday (Feb. 28) before Fat Tuesday, a day when the French Quarter bustles with activity as several krewes prepare for their weekend parades.
Galatoire's breaks with its no reservations policy to auction tables in its main dining room for that Friday lunch. This year, proceeds benefit the Galatoire's Foundation, Cafe Reconcile and the Idea Village. After this winter's two table auctions are tallied, the foundation expects to break the $1 million fundraising milestone. The other auction is for tables on the Friday before Christmas.
The Carnival auction is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29. Champagne and hors d'oeuvres are served at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $50 per couple and $25 for each additional guest. Call Christi Broussard at (504) 525-6022 for auction reservations.
