Gene Bertoncini

The extraordinarily versatile guitarist Gene Bertoncini has been nimbly moving between genres for nearly five decades, earning the sobriquet 'the Segovia of jazz." From his early days playing jazz with drummer Buddy Rich, Bertoncini has stepped easily into a startling range of musical roles; he's played for both the Metropolitan Opera and the house band at the Johnny Carson Show. His credits include stints with the Benny Goodman Sextet, vocalists Tony Bennett, Vic Damone and Lena Horne and composers Burt Bacharach and Lalo Schifrin. On this particular tour, Bertoncini has been joined for most gigs by virtuoso local guitarists. At Snug Harbor, he swings with Astral Project veteran Steve Masakowski and the solo acoustic guitarist John Rankin. Tickets $20. — Alison Fensterstock
