Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons are now available for Louisiana's senior citizens, says Mike Strain, commissioner of the state Department of Agriculture and Forestry. The coupons can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from participating famers markets and roadside stands.
To qualify, a person must be at least 60 years old and earn less than 185 percent of the poverty level income: $20,147 for a single-person household or $27,214 for a two-person household. Seniors who qualify receive $24 worth of coupons, which can be redeemed through Nov. 30.
