Dining host Dishcrawl resumes its roving restaurant tours in New Orleans with a triple stop on Freret Street beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9. Participants learn which restaurants they will visit on the night of the event.
"We keep them secret so people will have an open mind [going in]," says New Orleans' Dishcrawl organizer Michelle Mashon.
The dishes are a surprise too. Chefs prepare their menu favorites and more experimental fare. "We encourage the chefs to try out something new and see how people respond," Mashon says.
Diners can expect to sample different appetizers and entrees (about 12 ounces of food) at each stop, plus dessert at the tour's end. Seating is family-style, and each 45-minute stop includes time for the restaurant owner or chef to mingle with guests. The pace also allows for lingering afterwards on Freret Street for a cocktail or coffee. Mojo Coffee House (4700 Freret Street, 504-875-2243) is offering Dishcrawlers half off any purchase that night. Dishcrawl tickets are $45 and include dinner, tax and tip but not drinks.
Mashon hopes to run another Dishcrawl in late May, possibly in the Irish Channel. Diners can follow @dishcrawlnola on Twitter and Instagram for daily clues to the restaurants' identities.
