Baking Up Nostalgia

The latest outpost of the Tastee (901 Harrison Ave., 483-9080) bakery chain in Lakeview offers an unabashed homage to the flavors and memories of McKenzie's Pastry Shoppes, which once had a store at the same address. Tastee franchisee Jamie Santopadre opened the new bakery with a mix of Tastee-brand recipes and products based on original McKenzie's recipes, including buttermilk drops, brownies, jelly rolls and turtles. The McKenzie's chain shut down in 2001.
