Eat Local Challenge
To mark National Farmers Market Week, Louisiana agriculture commissioner Mike Strain issued the "Eat Local Louisiana Challenge," asking residents to eat only food grown or produced within the state for one week, Aug. 2-8. The challenge is intended to get more people to explore local farmers markets and support Louisiana farmers, fishermen and food companies. A partial list of farmers markets across the state is posted on the department's Web site (www.ldaf.la.gov).
