Actor/dancer/singer Ben Vereen, who has type 2 diabetes, and race car driver Charlie Kimball, who has type 1 diabetes, will be on hand for a daylong conference on the disease from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at the Pontchartrain Center (4545 Williams Blvd., Kenner, 465-9985; www.pontchartraincenter.com).
Vereen and Kimball will share their experiences at the Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD) conference. The event includes a health fair with 50 exhibits, screenings, lectures, motivational programs and information about living with the disease, caring for diabetes patients, risk factors, exercises, foot problems common among diabetes sufferers and more.
TCOYD founder and internationally recognized diabetes expert Dr. Steven Edelman, Dr. Lawrence Blonde of Ochsner, Tulane physician Dr. Vivian Fonseca and other medical professionals from around the country will discuss all aspects of diabetes.
