December to Remember

comment

After a lackluster year of campaigning, this month could be a December to remember for local political junkies. Qualifying for New Orleans mayor, City Council and other local offices in the 2010 elections runs Dec. 9-11. Two major fundraisers follow the next day, Saturday (Dec. 12). U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, Democratic pundit James Carville and businessman and Louisiana Recovery Authority chair David Voelker will co-host a fundraising brunch for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Voelker's home (2701 St. Charles Ave.). Tickets start at $1,000. That evening, the 42nd annual meeting of the Alliance for Good Government gets underway in the Grand Salon of the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel. This year's program includes metro area awards for the 2009 Legislators of the Year. Tickets are $55 each. The cash bar (and politicking) starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by the awards dinner at 7 p.m. For ticket information call 282-2222. — Allen Johnson Jr.
