Creole Christmas at Preservation Hall

comment

2 p.m. & 4 p.m. Wed., Dec. 24

Preservation Hall, 726 St. Peter St., 522-2841; www.preservationhall.com

With or without the lagniappe of fluffy snow, the festive vibrations of the French Quarter during the holidays can be a tiny bit magical even for the bitterest Scrooge. At the hallowed Preservation Hall, the elder statesmen of traditional New Orleans music are celebrating the holiday with the annual Creole Christmas concert at family-friendly afternoon start times. (So you can be snug in front of the fire with a hot toddy by cocktail time — or grilling in the yard in a T-shirt, because really, who knows.) Bandleader Lars Edegran and the St. Peter All-Stars ring in the holiday with a special guest appearance by blues vocalist Big Al Carson (pictured), whose mammoth voice brought down the house during a performance at the Hall during the Voodoo Music Experience a few months back. All ages admitted. Tickets $15. — Alison Fensterstock
