Council notes

Food trucks and ferries

comment

  • New Orleans City Council President Jackie Clarkson commended businessman John Georges on his purchase of The Advocate last week, saying, "The people that sit in a vacuum and press a little computer are not part of the conversation. ... We can't lose journalism in order to keep up with state-of-the-art technology."

  • Council Vice President Stacy Head's compromise food truck ordinance, which would allow more mobile vendor permits (but not explicitly for food trucks), was once again delayed and moved to the June 20 council meeting agenda.

  • The council passed a motion June 6 to support a measure by state Sen. David Heitmeier, D-New Orleans, which could put the control of the Algiers Ferry in the hands of the Regional Transit Authority, with support from the state Department of Transportation and Development. That bill gained final legislative approval last week. — Alex Woodward
