In "Uncharted Waters," (News & Views, Jan. 29), we quoted Melanie Driscoll as saying that in Louisiana, mottled duck populations are showing a strong population decline. That statement is incorrect. According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, mottled duck populations in Louisiana are stable, while they are declining in neighboring Gulf Coast states. Additionally, we incorrectly identified Driscoll as director of the Bird Resource Center at LSU. She is coordinator of the Bird Life International Program (IBA), for which the National Audubon Society is the U.S. partner.
