comment

Chef Ryan Hughes has been serving weekly popup dinners (www.facebook.com/purlooneworleans) while he waits for completion of construction of the Southern Food and Beverage Museum's (www.southernfood.org) space in Central City, which will house his restaurant Purloo. Last week, he and chef Chris DeBarr, formerly of The Green Goddess and Serendipity, teamed up to prepare a "new Low Country" dinner, in which they served their interpretations of dishes from coastal North and South Carolina. This Friday, they are preparing a Tuscan wine dinner. Dishes include calamari crudo served over bruschetta, Tuscan pork ragu made with Chappapeela Farms pork and served over porcini pappardelle, and honey gelato with crispy rosemary phyllo. Wine pairings come from Casa Vinicola Zonin, which owns many Italian labels and is known for its proseccos. The dinner is $48 per person, or $75 including wine pairings, and will be held Fri. Oct. 4.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails, and dinner is served at 7 p.m. at 1519 Carondelet St. Reservations are required and may be made at (504) 430-1840 or email nolapurloo@gmail.com. —WILL COVIELLO
