Wild Wayne of Q93 radio hosted the 2014 Big Easy Music Awards at Harrah's New Orleans April 21. The ceremony followed the theme of a musical journey through New Orleans history, and there were performances by Anais St. John, Andrew Duhon, Sweet Crude and others. Bounce rapper Big Freedia was named Entertainer of the Year and won the Best Rap/Hip-Hop Award. Freedia and the Brass-A-Holics closed the show with a high-energy performance, uniting New Orleans beats and brass.

The Gambit-affiliated Foundation for Entertainment, Development and Education (FEDE) presented special honors at the Big Easy gala, including a Lifetime Achievement Award for Theodore Emile "Bo" Dollis, longtime chief and singer for the Wild Magnolias Mardi Gras Indians. Dollis was unable to attend the ceremony due to health issues, but his son, Bo Dollis Jr., accepted the award on his father's behalf, saying the recognition was "a long time coming." In videotaped remarks, Donald Harrison Jr., Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival producer Quint Davis congratulated Dollis on his achievements.

When Lil Nathan accepted the award for Best Zydeco, he brought his father, Nathan Williams Sr., on stage to represent the band that came before him, Nathan and the Zydeco Cha-Chas, which also was nominated in the category. Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews won the award for Best Male Performer and served as honorary chairperson for the event.

The FEDE awards grants to support music and art education and business development in New Orleans.
