Dr. John

received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance from the Americana Music Association during the association's annual conference in Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 18. This year's lifetime achievement recipients also included Duane Eddy, Robert Hunter and Chris Strachwitz. Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach presented the award to Dr. John at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.

Erica Washington,

an epidemiologist with the Louisiana Office of Public Health in New Orleans, was recognized by the White House Champions of Change program Sept. 10. The LSU and Tulane University graduate is the Health Care Associated Infections Coordinator for the Louisiana Department of Public Health's Infectious Disease Epidemiology Division.

Halliburton Energy Services

pleaded guilty Sept. 19 to destroying evidence relating to the BP oil disaster in 2010. U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo fined the company $200,000, the maximum allowable, for a misdemeanor charge of "intentionally causing damage without authorization to a protected computer."

Louisiana

once again tops a "worst list." The Center for American Progress has named the state as the nation's worst for women, citing poor economic security, lack of quality health care and a dearth of women in elected leadership positions. The report, "The State of Women in America," is available at www.americanprogress.org.
