Tracy Porter

spent the New Orleans Saints bye week throwing an early Thanksgiving dinner for residents of his hometown of Port Allen. Porter consulted with school guidance counselors and his church to find children and families who might not be able to afford a traditional Thanksgiving. The Saints cornerback also has launched his own nonprofit, the Pick Six Foundation, dedicated to recreational youth programs.


The Royal Sonesta Hotel

once again is helping New Orleans Children's Hospital over the holidays with a Teddy Bear Tea and Christmas-themed second line at the hospital Dec. 12 and a party for 40 young patients in the Royal Sonesta's grand ballroom Dec. 16. The hotel also has commissioned a hand-blown ornament from local glass artist James Vella to benefit the hospital.


Al Jarreau

headlined Xavier University's Dr. Norman C. Francis Scholarship Benefit Nov. 18, performing at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Theater. John Boutte, a Xavier grad, opened for the jazz great. Jarreau also came to the Xavier Jazz Band's concert the night before and introduced the group. The annual concert helps fund college tuition for deserving students regardless of their financial situations.


Chris Paul

will be joining Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Carmelo Anthony for a four-city exhibition-style "Homecoming Tour" to benefit the players' various sports foundations, including Paul's own CP3 Foundation. Each of the players will head a 10-person team. The tour begins Dec. 1 in Akron, Ohio, and comes to the UNO Lakefront Arena Dec. 3. All games will be live-streamed on Google.
