Contestants have one week to shoot a three-minute film in sequence (no editing) on a single roll of Super 8 film, which they later see for the first time when all the entries are screened in public before a live audience. This year's contest begins on Sunday, August 31 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lost Love Lounge, 2529 Dauphine Street, where entrants can pick up a film cartridge and a Super 8 camera (if needed) and get free instruction on how to use it. The premiere will take place at d.b.a., 618 Frenchman Street, on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 10 p.m. Local comedian Chris Trew will host the premiere and a live piano player will provide a soundtrack for the films.
The entry fee is $50 and covers camera, film, processing, transfer to HD, and admission to the premiere. A refundable $50 deposit is also required if you take a camera. More info here.
