New Term City Council to Hold
Inaugural Special Organizational Meeting and
Elect President and Vice President
at 12:00 Noon, May 5, 2014 in Council Chamber
Councilmembers to Participate in
Interfaith Service at St. Louis Cathedral and
Inauguration Ceremony at Saenger Theatre
New Orleans, LA - April 29, 2014 - As mandated by the Home Rule Charter of the City of New Orleans, on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 12:00 Noon, the City Council will hold its Inaugural Special Organizational Meeting.
Councilmembers will introduce themselves and the Council will elect the Council President and Vice President, and appoint the Clerk of Council and Assistant Clerk of Council.
Prior to the Council's Special Organizational Meeting, Council Incumbent and Elect Members will participate in an 8:30 a.m. Interfaith Service at St. Louis Cathedral and a 10:00 a.m. Inauguration Ceremony at the Saenger Theatre with Mayor Mitchell J. Landrieu, Sheriff of Orleans Parish Marlin N. Gusman, Clerk of Civil District Court Dale N. Atkins, Clerk of Criminal District Court Arthur A. Morrell and Orleans Parish Coroner Jeffrey C. Rouse.
Councilmembers will take their oaths of office from the following individuals:
-Councilmember-at-Large Stacy Head will be sworn in by
Orleans Parish Criminal Court Judge Tracey Flemings-Davillier
-Councilmember-at-Large Elect Jason Rogers Williams will be
sworn in by retired Orleans Parish Criminal Court Judge Calvin Johnson
-District "A" Councilmember Susan G. Guidry will be sworn in by her husband, Hervin A. Guidry, Esquire
-District "B" Councilmember LaToya Cantrell will be sworn in by her father-in-law, Orleans Parish Criminal Court Magistrate Judge Harry Cantrell, Jr.
-District "C" Councilmember Elect Nadine M. Ramsey will be sworn in by Louisiana State Supreme Court Chief Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson
-District "D" Councilmember Elect Jared C. Brossett will be sworn in by Orleans Parish Civil District Court Judge Monique G. Morial
-District "E" Councilmember James Austin Gray II will be sworn in by his wife, Orleans Parish Juvenile Court Chief Judge Ernestine S. Gray
Following the Saenger Theatre Ceremony, Councilmembers will return to City Hall to begin their Special Organizational Meeting promptly at Noon in the Council Chamber (click here for map).
The Organizational Meeting program will include an Invocation by Rev. Dr. Norwood Thompson, Jr., Rev. Antony Rigoli, O.M.I, and Imam Rafeeq H. Numan. The Warren Easton High School Color Guard will present the colors. The National Anthem will be presented by Image Music.
The meeting is open to the public; however seating in the Council Chamber will be limited. The public entrance to the Council Chamber will be through the Perdido and Poydras Street entrances into City Hall.
