Shotgun Cinema continues its monthly series of independent and repertory films at the Marigny Opera House on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m. with French filmmaker Agnes Varda's The Gleaners and I. This 2001 documentary essay explores the lives of gleaners, or foragers, who work in places ranging from rural agricultural fields to urban streets. Varda is a major figure in French Cinema and a representative of the Left Bank movement that preceded the French New Wave.
Preceding the film will be an excerpt of French filmmaker Vincent Ducarne's work-in-progress debut feature The Impossible Place, an experimental non-fiction film about life aboard a cargo ship. Ducarne will attend the screening to introduce his film and answer questions. With this event, Shotgun CInema switches from Sunday to Wednesday night screenings.Tickets are $7. More info here.
