Along with the local services and businesses that took a couple of "sneaux" days this week was a food truck rally at Finn McCool's that had been planned to take place on 1/29. That event, My House NOLA's "Bacon Grease," a gathering intended to celebrate swine, has been pushed back to this coming Wednesday, Feb. 5th.
My House NOLA holds food truck rallies in a number of neighborhoods around New Orleans, with one on Freret St. that takes place the first Wednesday of each month, and the Mid-City rally usually planned for each month's last Wednesday. This, however, will be the first bacon-themed event for either location.
"I know that a lot of the food truck members have really creative minds and they love working on innovative menu concepts," said My House NOLA's founder/CEO Barrie Schwartz, "but they don’t always get a chance. Giving them a theme really lets them delve into new menu items that they wouldn’t have had the opportunity to showcase otherwise."
The event will showcase the bacon-inspired efforts of four local food trucks, including Boo Koo BBQ & Burgers (chicken fried bacon, "deep fried Bacon n' truffle mac n cheese balls" and a bacon brownie), Foodie Call ("Brie L.T." with bacon, fig mustard, Brie, seared tomato, and arugula on ciabatta), and The NOLA Truck, which will be offering a "Backened Shrimp Po'Boy" with candied bacon, cheese and caramelized onions. Also on hand will be Crepes a la Cart, with "bacon-Caprese" filled crepes.
As well as offering bacon lovers a chance to get their fix, the event is intended to support the community. According to Schwartz, "We use the mobility of food trucks as often as possible to promote different neighborhoods all over New Orleans. I live in Mid-City, and I love the community here, and how invested the citizens here are in neighborhood. I think the food truck events are really great because they bring people from all over town to Mid-City, where they might not have come here before, and they see just what a great feel there is, and how much pride people here have in their neighborhood.”
My House NOLA's "Bacon Grease" will take place at Finn McCool's Irish Pub (3701 Banks St.) on Wednesday, Feb. 5th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
