New local film organization Shotgun Cinema debuts tonight, Sunday, January 12 with a screening of In the Mood For Love at 7 p.m. at the Marigny Opera House, 725 St. Ferdinand Street. Shotgun Cinema has applied for non-profit status and plans on presenting monthly screenings at the local venue with an eye toward establishing its own theater in the Marigny-Bywater neighborhood. The group's focus will be on high-quality film and digital presentations of new independent and repertory films. Originally released in 2000, Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai's lush and romantic In the Mood for Love has become a classic of world cinema, recently coming in at number 24 on British film magazine Sight and Sound's list of the Top 50 films of all time. Tickets are $7. More info here.
