New Orleans' kitchens are full of young talent — whether that kitchen is in a white-tablecloth restaurant, a pop-up or a food truck. Encouraging and celebrating those up-and-coming culinary talents is the goal of Gambit's inaugural Emerging Chefs Challenge
, a cooking competition that will be held Aug. 28 at The Cannery
in Mid-City. Twelve finalists have been invited to participate. Each will serve a specialty small plate or dish of his or her own choosing, and attendees will taste and vote on their favorites.
• Qualifying candidates must currently be employed in the greater New Orleans area.
• They must also currently hold the position of head chef, executive chef or chef de cuisine
• Chefs must not have held this position for longer than 3 years
The 12 chef finalists are: Jeff Mattia
