Legacy Kitchen opened recently near the start of Veterans Boulevard, but the people behind this new casual restaurant are already quite familiar with the turf.
The restaurant is an upscale spinoff from the same company that runs New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Co., a local mini-chain that has been on quite a tear of expansion and redevelopment lately. New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Co. also has a location just a block up the road from Legacy Kitchen, but this new concept is much different.
The restaurant serves modernized American comfort food, and chef Curtis Moss Jr. oversees a menu that features several steaks, a Latin-style roasted chicken, entrée salads, burgers and sandwiches, meatloaf and local seafood. The barbecue ribs are served with kale slaw and shoestring potatoes, the soft shell crab has edamame and corn maque choux and there’s a duck confit chili. Prices start at mid-range (sandwiches around $13, some entrees under $20) and rise from there into fine-dining territory for the steaks and seafood entrees.
Legacy Kitchen has a full bar with specialty cocktails (see the “porch swing” for vodka-spiked sweet tea) and an all-American wine list. The building, a one-time Shoney’s location, has been thoroughly redesigned with a look that combines an updated diner with a neighborhood bistro, with plenty of gleaming subway tile, dining bars and an open kitchen.
Legacy Kitchen is open seven days a week.
