The NFL anticipates more than 111 million viewers tuning into the 2013 Super Bowl on February 3. In New Orleans, thousands of football fans will descend upon the city in the days and weeks before the game — and the NFL plans to roll out dozens of events downtown.
Today at the Superdome, the Super Bowl XLVII Host Committee announced its slate of events before the game. Frank Supovitz, NFL vice president of events, said the "NFL experience" will start "when you roll out of your hotel rooms." The main draw will be the NFL Experience from January 30 through February 3 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Tickets to that event are $25 general admission and $20 children 12 and under.
The "interactive theme park" encompasses 800,000 square feet of the Convention Center, with items from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, clinics for kids hosted by NFL players and coaches, and interactive activities for kids and families.
An NFL Tailgate Party will move from the Convention Center and to the Superdome, and the Game Day Fan Plaza, which debuted at Superbowl XLIV, will take over Champions Square and all stadium parking roof decks — making the event four times the size of the square.

Super Bowl Media Day, held inside the Superdome on Tuesday, January 29, will open to the public — tickets are $25 and available online. Fans can watch and listen in on player interviews, and portable, personal radios will allow fans to tune in to broadcasts from around the Dome. A media center "fan gallery," in which fans can watch media file stories and air broadcasts and interviews, will be open to the public with free tickets available.
The night before the game, the NFL hosts its NFL Honors awards, which airs on CBS.
The NFL also will air its concert series at the Sugar Mill on CMT and VH1, and a "Super Bowl Boulevard" (described as a "Super Bowl Jazz Fest") will also feature the game's Roman numeral statues, which will arrive via barge on the Mississippi River before docking at Woldenberg Park, with a light show.
As part of the "Super Saturday" day of service, more than 1,000 local and visiting volunteers will donate 5,000 volunteer hours to citywide projects. The NFL also will donate $1 million for five New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD) facilities, matched by $1 million from local funds from the City and sponsors. Rebuilding Together New Orleans has invested $45,000 in the NFL YET Center and $250,000 to help build 10 homes in Algiers. Youth fitness campaign NFL Play 60 will host five hours of exercise at five NORD facilities, and Samaritan's Feet will donate 1,500 shoes at each NORD site.
In addition to "environmental initiatives" like carbon credit donations, recycling, food recovery (working with Second Harvest Food Bank), bike valet and bike sharing programs, Environmental Committee Chair Patty Riddlebarger from Entergy announced Entergy's Geaux Green game — a winner will receive two tickets to the Super Bowl plus travel and accommodations. The winner will be announced January 10.
Tree-planting organization Hike for KaTREEna also will plant 3,000 trees, and Greenlight New Orleans will donate energy efficient lightbulbs to New Orleans homes.
