Irish Network New Orleans will take over the Prytania Theatre this weekend to present the first annual New Orleans Irish Film Fest. An opening gala Friday night at the Prytania will serve as a fundraiser for the Fest and feature Irish pipers, green carpet, flowing Guinness and Jameson and a screening of director John Ford's 1952 classic The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Dress code for the gala is black-tie-optional for men and cocktail attire for women.

Saturday and Sunday will bring ten mostly Irish and independent films (with no dress code), many of which have never been shown theatrically in New Orleans. Highlights include multiple festival award-winner His and Hers; a Festival of Irish Shorts and the 1922 silent film Come On Over, presented with a live piano player. Tickets are $10; tickets for "family film" Secret of Kells are $5; and tickets for the opening the night gala are $50 general admission and $40 for Network members.

A full schedule for the Fest is available here, complete with links to tickets and details on each film.
