The summer movie season starts in early May, but the Hollywood studios spend much of the year jockeying for position as to which specific weekend each blockbuster will open. So generally speaking, it's one major release (plus a few smaller ones) every Friday from here on out until September. Today's mega-movie is:
Thee were no local press screenings for this, the eighth collaboration between director Tim Burton and star Johnny Depp. But the trailer has us yearning for Edward Scissorhands. Wide release.

Gifted Polish director Agnieszka Holland burst onto the international scene in 1991 with holocaust story Europa, Europa. Here, Holland (who has also directed the best episodes of Treme so far) returns to World War II with the true story of a sewer worker who shelters Jews within in the sewer system of a small Polish town. TARZAN OF THE APES and TARZAN: LORD OF THE LOUISIANA JUNGLE

GRACE & MERCY
Shot over the course a of a year after the earthquake in Haiti, this film by director Luis Pena tells the story of two people who are helping to rebuild the country. One showing tonight, Friday, May 11, at 7:30 at Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center.
