Listen: Gambit's free music Friday

In this week's Gambit, I look at Galactic's latest album Carnivale Electricos, out Tuesday, Feb. 21 — Mardi Gras. (Read about it here.) The band performs 10 p.m. Saturday and Monday at Tipitina's — and Conan O'Brien's Team Coco has made the album available early, just in time for pre-Fat Tuesday festivities. Stream it here. (The band appears on TBS' Conan March 29.)

Also in the Mardi Gras spirit, rapper Juvenile dropped a new, ferocious, spitfiring track, "Mardi Gras." Download it here. Look for the full mixtape next week.

Rappers Nesby Phips and Curren$y team up for the brief jam "Rubenstein Bros."
Grab it here.

After the jump, more new local jams and some selected tracks from incoming artists.

If you missed its Valentine's Day-themed gift, listen to young gun rock trio Bantam Foxes' "Sweetheart" here. Check out the band's Twin Tone EP here. The band performs at the Circle Bar on Lundi Gras with Big Rock Candy Mountain and Sports & Leisure.

Grab Sun Hotel's live cover of Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures opening track "Disorder." Sun Hotel kicks off Chinquapin Records' two-day Mardi Gras Chindig tonight at Cafe Prytania.

Tonight at Siberia, This Will Destroy You and Amen Dunes perform with Mountains, a blissed out ambient duo from New York. Grab the track "Thousand Square" from the band's acclaimed 2011 LP Air Museum.

Amen Dunes is Damon McMahon's minimal psych-folk medium, which earned acclaim with last year's Through Donkey Jaw, which you can stream here.

There are about one billion concerts and worthwhile music events from now through Mardi Gras, and you can find complete listings on Gambit's music calendar.

And a bonus, because you're likely to hear this among the dozens other bounce-meets-pop remixes behind parading dance teams on the parade routes: Here's a remix of Beyonce's 4 track "End of Time" featuring that beat.

... and a bonus bonus: Here are some choice Whitney Houston tributes — a mashup of Houston's "How Will I Now" with Robyn's "Dancing on My Own," and dance-pop artist Gordon Voidwell's video for "XO Boyfriend."

... and a late-addition at 1 p.m.: World-traveling weirdo producer-mastermind Diplo debuted a twisted bounce-inspired track with bounce artist Nicky Da B. Download "Express Yourself" here.

Happy Mardi Gras.
