Dr. John partners with The Black Keys for next album

The 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and universically mindacious Dr. Teeth-alike Dr. John has partnered with The Black Keys' guitarist Dan Auerbach for Mac's next album, Locked Down, his first for the Nonesuch Records label.

As Jack White was to Loretta Lynn and Wanda Jackson for their late-career shots-in-the-arm, Auerbach will be to Dr. John, who collaborated with a young roster of musicians and recorded at Nashville's Easy Eye Sound. "It was way cool cutting this record with Dan and the crew he put together for it," he told Nonesuch. "It's reel HIP."

Says Auerbach: "For my money, Mac's one of the greatest who ever was and who ever will be."

Auerbach invited Dr. John to the 2011 Bonnaroo after the pair visited in New Orleans, and Mac finished his vocal sessions in November. Locked Down is due out April 3.
