The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2012 inductees, and Cosimo Matassa is on that bill for an Award of Musical Excellence. Last year, the Hall of Fame inducted Dr. John and honored Dave Bartholomew and Fats Domino in its American Masters series.
Matassa put his stamp on R&B and rock and roll through his J&M Studios. He had several studios between the mid-1940s and 1970s, and artists including Fats Domino, Little Richard, Ray Charles, Lloyd Price, Smiley Lewis, Dr. John and Aaron Neville recorded at them.
Performers to be inducted in 2012 include the Beastie Boys, Guns N' Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donovan, Laura Nyro, The Small Faces/The Faces and Freddie King. Other nonperforming inductees are producer Don Kirshner, Glyn Johns and Tom Dowd. The induction ceremony is April 14, 2012 in Cleveland.
