Just when you thought New Orleans was running short on new burlesque shows, Rick Delaup, creator of Bustout Burlesque and the New Orleans Burlesque Festival, announces that he'll open Boylesk at the House of Blues Dec. 2 (tickets go on sale Sat. Oct. 22). Some male performers have appeared in both his Bustout show and in both the 2009 and 2010 festival showcases. The Evil Hate Monkey (pictured) has appeared at both. The House of Blues was interested in him creating the show, Delaup says. It will be burlesque, meaning not the straightforward beefcake show of Chippendales, he adds. He cites Chicago's Stage Door Johnnies as an all-male burlesque troupe that's making a name for itself, with a monthly scheduled showcase. He expects most performers in the debut show to be visiting talents, but Boylesk is looking for local men interested in auditioning.
