New Orleans: the best city for paradox

A list by Forbes magazine ranks New Orleans as the second-best city in the nation for jobs. An excerpt from the article reads thusly:

(T)he Big Easy seems to be finding its place again among America’s great cities. Jobs, up 3.5% since 2006, have been created by rebuilding, a resurgence of tourism and a growing immigrant population...

This comes on the tails of a February report provided by Forbes.com, which says "the Big Easy is right now the toughest city in the U.S. for finding employment, according to the online job aggregator Indeed.com."

"New Orleans never fully recovered from the Katrina disaster, and tourism hasn't bounced back," says Paul Forster, Indeed.com's chief executive officer and cofounder. "But I think we'll see some improvement over the next year."

So, when it comes to the job market, Katrina screwed us over and saved us at the same time. Actually, that sounds about right.
