First up: Community Records' Head Above Water compilation is a free, 36-song compilation curated by Community Records, with help from Asian Man, Plan-It-X and Quote Unquote labels and Gulf Restoration Network. (Click for a ZIP download.) It's free to download, but Community Records recommends donating to GRN in exchange for the download, which also features literature, photos and more info from GRN about the Gulf oil disaster. (More info here.)
There's loads of politically minded punk, folk, ska, more punk and metal, with unreleased material from locals Small Bones ("Deep Water Event Horizon") and Thou, whose single "Bonnet Carre" is from an upcoming 12" EP on Robotic Empire.
The compilation also has unreleased material from ska and punk rock artists like Mustard Plug and Mike Park and tracks by Screaming Females, Caddywhompus and Dan Potthast, with the tongue-in-cheek "Eat The Planet."
