I’ve never known a motorcycle enthusiast who needed much motivation to get on their bike and ride, but if you need an excuse for a ride Saturday, April 16, here’s a good one: a Blessing of the Bikes rally expected to draw about 5,000 motorcycles to Magnolia Beach Plaza (6865 Magnolia Beach Road, Denham Springs) from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The blessing service, held to promote a safe 2011 riding season, starts at 12:30 p.m.

Even if you don’t have a motorcycle, there are lots of reasons to attend the rally: food, music, a view of some of your favorite motorcycles and probably some you’ve never seen before and a raffle for a 2011 Harley Davidson Golf Cart, a custom enclosed motorcycle trailer and a four-day Caribbean cruise.

The best reason to go, however, is the rally is a benefit for Dreams Come True of Louisiana, a foundation dedicated to making dreams a reality for children with life-threatening diseases. Over the past nine years, the Iron Warriors of Central Louisiana, the motorcycle club that organizes the rally, has raised more than $70,000 for the foundation. This year the Iron Warriors are partnering with Livingston Parish Convention and Visitors Bureau and expect the event Saturday to be the largest one-day motorcycle rally in Louisiana.

Vendors will offer a variety of food and drinks as well as clothing, bike accessories and door prizes. Music will be provided by the Jimmy Romano Band, Psycho Joe, 3 Mob Jam and Undun.
