I've sometimes thought that the best thing Amy Winehouse could do for her career (if not for her sobriety) would be to fly down here, get an apartment on Esplanade, bring in producer Mark Ronson and team up with a bunch of local musicians for a New Orleans-themed album.
Obviously that's not going to happen any time soon, but hope springs eternal and so does Amy, because she's just recorded a cover version of "It's My Party (And I'll Cry If I Want To)" that demonstrates just how good she can be. The song will be released next week on Q: Soul Bossa Nostra, an album-of-a-million-stars type tribute to music producer Quincy Jones. Who knows what it took to get this song done — and who cares?
