Happy Cinco de Mayo! How 'bout instead of consuming buckets of frozen margaritas and queso dip, round up some items to help with the oil spill clean up. You already may have some of these things lying around your house.
Media arts nonprofit New Orleans Video Access Center (NOVAC) is collecting the following items to donate to the Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary Volunteer Program, which is helping with the clean-up effort:
Blue Dawn dishwashing detergent [Side note: Dawn sure is getting a lot of exposure out of this whole thing, isn't it?]
Absorbent linens (like towels and soft cloth)
Safety glasses (clear and dark)
Safety utility knives
Dip nets (small mesh)
Pool cleaning nets
Mosquito head nets
You can drop the items off at the NOVAC offices (532 Louisa St, 940-5780; firstname.lastname@example.org) Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The donation drive started today and lasts through May 14.
