Gambit ace photographer Cheryl Gerber captured some great images from the inauguration of Mayor Landrieu and the new City Council this morning....
Landrieu finished his speech with a call to arms of sorts, asking citizens to get up and take one step at a time: One step! One team! One fight! One voice! One city!
Terence Blanchard soloed on "Amazing Grace." The program included many musical performances, including Irma Thomas singing the National Anthem and Deacon John performing "America the Beautiful."
Former mayor Marc Morial and his wife, CBS News' Michelle Miller, look enigmatic in the stands. Earlier in the day, Morial had told WWL-TV that outgoing mayor Ray Nagin's term of office was marked by "fumbling, stumbling and bumbling."
Outgoing mayor Ray Nagin hugs incoming mayor Mitch Landrieu. After the ceremony, as Nagin left the reviewing stands, WWL's Bigad Shaban asked if he could inquire as to how Nagin was feeling, to which a laughing Nagin replied "No!
Hell to the no!"
Second-term District B councilwoman Stacy Head (in pink suit) and new District A councilwoman Susan Guidry waved flags in the stands.
