TONIGHT: Black Tusk

Unless you bought tickets in advance, you probably won't be going to the Spoon/Deerhunter super-show tonight at Republic. Spoon, the Austin, Texas, post-punk fourtet with a thing for minimalism, headlines after releasing the Billboard top-fiving Transference (Merge) in January. And then there's Deerhunter, who played One Eyed Jacks with Time New Viking last year and released the gorgeous EP Radiowater Cassette Exchange (Kranky) — itself the latest in a string of exceptional releases from the Atlanta pop monsters. Also on the bill is Strange Boys, an up-and-coming garage band that just released Be Brave on Rough Trade.

So, there's that. Fortunately, there's also this:

The total opposite, on the flipside of town. A trio of absolute destruction, Savannah, Ga., metal outfit Black Tusk performs with Tombs, Graves of Valor and Mars. The antithesis of the prim-and-proper Austin crowd is this black-clad, beards-and-brutality lineup at Banks Street Bar. Tickets $8. Show is at 10 p.m.

Watch Deerhunter's entire set from last year's San Francisco's Noise Pop festival below the jump.
