A new upscale restaurant called Le Foret is preparing to open in the Central Business District next week.
A large-scale renovation of the restaurant's historic building at the corner of Camp and Common streets has been underway for about a year, but Le Foret now is taking reservations for dinner, with service beginning Oct. 1.
Jimmy Corwell is the chef and he will prepare what the restaurant describes as "French New Orleans cuisine," with plenty of locally-produced raw ingredients. Based on a sample menu posted to Le Foret's rudimentary though temporary -- Web site, this looks pretty ambitious, with entrees including caramelized redfish, tuna wrapped in pancetta, roasted lamb and venison au poivre, at prices between $24 and $32. Of particular note is a six-course chocolate tasting menu. The general manager, Danny Millan, is an alum of Restaurant August and other local restaurant
Le Foret will have three floors of dining rooms, including private dining areas, and a rooftop space for special events.
