This art is not edible, but seeing it first hand certainly did make me hungry.
The work comes from the collaboration of glass artist Paulette Lizano, from Metairie's Lizano's Glass Haus, and carpenter Dave Porreto, who has builds custom wine cabinets, tables and other furniture and art pieces from recycled wood and hardware.
Dave makes the "bread" from thick lengths of sanded cypress while Paulette "stuffs" it with glass shrimp, vegetables and even strands of glass gravy.
They have been bringing examples such as those pictured here around to local restaurants to generate interest in their work. And this weekend, they will have more on display at the New Orleans Po-Boy Preservation Festival. Look for their booth on Oak Street on Sunday afternoon during the free fest.
