Hannan, who has run the clinic for 23 years, is passionate about holistic medicine, or addressing overall health of the body.
"One out of three women and one out of two men who are on earth right now will eventually get cancer unless they make significant changes in diet and lifestyle," says Hannan, referencing a study conducted by the American Cancer Society. It is a sobering statistic, one that makes Hannan's whole-body approach all the more reasonable.
"We're all about wellness, about how people can be proactive in their health," Hannan explains. "We're about educating people on how to eat right and make better choices in life so they're ahead of the game in terms of staying young and keeping [a healthy] weight and keeping away from sickness. But we have fun in what we do, and our patients appreciate it."
Patients are indeed appreciative, and eager " so much so that when the office opened for the first time after Katrina, patients were lined up and waiting outside the building.
"We got busy right away," Hannan says. "I was amazed at how many people we saw that first day, and how many were thankful we were back. I felt very appreciated."
Hannan is a fervent advocate of detoxification, or "detox vacation," as she refers to it. The detox vacation, which uses such tools as the EB-Pro Cellular Cleanse and the Far Infrared Sauna, is designed to get rid of some of the toxins the body is exposed to from the environment. The treatments can even help alleviate the effects of a poor diet, Hannan says, adding that some of her detox patients also have reported additional benefits such as getting more restful sleep and having less pain and more energy.
The health center office sees a wide variety of patients who range from school-age children to the elderly " her oldest patient is 96 and suffer many different ailments, ranging from ADD to hormone imbalance to chiropractic problems.
