Left-handed, left-coast artist Tony Evans spent many years making Raku pottery, a process that has had a clear influence on his use of color in paintings such as Landscape #1 $150 with frame at Bella Nola (4236 Magazine St., 897-9499; www.bellanola.net).

An artist who has studied both at Loyola University New Orleans and at the Art Institute of Chicago, Suzanne T. Isaacs says she can find inspiration in almost anything: "a shadow, a doodle, stains on the studio floor." Perhaps this image was inspired by a night under the big top $125 at Hugh Martin Home (4222 Magazine St., 899-1882).

Though she considers herself self-taught and has been painting for as long as she can remember, Lisette Normann is now a dedicated student at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. A strong sense of shape and color is evident in works like this one $300 at Objets Trouves (3956 Magazine St., 897-5066).
