Arctic Monkeys

comment
From the Stones to Art Brut, the British have always been dependable exporters of snark, and the rude young alt-rock quartet Arctic Monkeys -- straight from Sheffield -- are one of the latest in that venerable line. Since forming in 2003, the band has showered fans with multiple EPs (including the memorably named Who the F**k Are Arctic Monkeys) and a pair of full-length albums at a breakneck pace that echoes the breathless speed of its hard-edged guitar pop. Loud, fast and snotty, the Monkeys' screwball punk rock relies on cheeky lyrics and danceable, throbbing beats for a thoroughly enjoyable racket. Of their fast-paced recent release, Favourite Worst Nightmare, lead guitarist Alex Turner says: "I don't really want to make it sound like we've grown up." Voxtrot opens. Tickets $25. -- Fensterstock
